Skinny Jeans: What's So Skinny About Them?

You're going to hate me for this, but I must say that nothing about the skinny jeans appeal to me. Everywhere I go jeans shopping, I hear other women asking about skinny jeans. Well, duh! Isn't it obvious that if you are twenty pounds overweight, no pair of skinny jeans can save you unless you work out those extra pounds away? Enough with all the optical illusion thing. The hype is just not going to work for everyone. Sadly, some women easily fall prey into the fashion trap. Most women are easily deceived into embracing the 'IN' thing even if it makes them look ten times worse than they already do. I'm not saying that women should ignore the recent fashion trends, but I'm urging women to have a little more sense on what they wear. It's not just about what's 'IN'. It's more on what fits your physique and what's comfortable on you. Women should realize that there's more to fashion than meets the eye. I mean if something obviously will only make you look ten times desperate would you wear it?

Billmonk: A Neat Way To Keep Track of Who Owes You What

It was a friends' night out. You picked the bill for the group's dinner but it was agreed that everyone has to chip in. Will you just forget about it? How are you going to collect? You were away on vacation and the rent is due. Your roommate paid the rent. Thus, you owe him half the monthly dues. Will you remember? How will you pay? You have a collection of books and most of it is out with your colleagues at work. In turn they also lent to you their DVD movies. Perhaps you also have some other stuff that you generously loaned out to friends, relatives, neighbors, etc. Where do you stand in all of these? Do you even have the time to keep track of all of these? It is a fact that it is somewhat awkward to collect something from somebody, more so, if it involves money. So how do you go about this?

Free Calls, Free SMS: My Top-Rated Sites

First, let's tackle the free SMS sites. There's a lot of them. What was my need? I basically needed one that allowed me to send free text messages to mobile numbers anywhere in the world, be it the U.S., Canada, UK, Asia. I specifically needed one that can connect me to mobile numbers in the Philippines. Here's my list:

  • 1. Callwave Widget - This is my free service of choice. It's easy to use. It's easy to download. It's easy to set up. It lets you add the interface in your google homepage or you can also add it as a widget in your Yahoo widgets engine. I give this service five stars for being free and for ease of use. It's plain and simple. Send messages to anywhere in the world for free. Send unlimited text messages in the U.S. and send a maximum of five(5) free SMS to other countries in a day. I particularly like the fact that there's no strings attached to this service. It's almost as good as any plug-and-play device. Get it, then use it!

PSALM 91: My Second Chance At Life

Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most Highwill rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snareand from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyesand see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning youto guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;I will be with him in trouble,I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy himand show him my salvation."

Day in and day out, I made sure that I had this prayer with me, because wherever I went it gave me a promise of protection.

Filipino: The Tale of the Flat Nose

Funny as it is, I see a lot of people being brought to this blog spot all because they searched for 'flat nose' and something like that. I wonder if it is an honest search about a real 'flat nose' or a mere keyword for a site like mine which has the words 'flat nose' in the page title.

Anyway, just to give in to the situation, I would like to share the tale of the flat nose, as narrated to me by one of my 'not so gentlemanly' teachers in the engineering department.

Consider Yourself Covered

A busload of people were all cramped up as they headed south in one of the Philippines' busiest islands.

Unfortunately though, every now and then there’s a very disgusting smell that wafts through the air. One can imagine the horrid smell of a sewage system that’s been left to stand for days under the intense heat of the sun.

One Minute & Sixteen Seconds on the Eighth: Manny Pacquiao Still Reigns Supreme in the Ring

After a cut on the sixth round, one would surmise that perhaps Manny Pacquiao just blew his chance of winning the match against an undefeated contender of Mexican descent, Jorge Iván Solís Pérez. Remember the previous fight that Manny Pacquiao had with Erik Morales when he had a cut from a head bunt? He fought unflinchingly to the finish but the cut itself put him to a great disadvantage thus, rendering his defeat in that match.

Manny Pacquaio, is still and always be the people's champ of the Philippines. He is the only fighter who has the skill and the heart to fight, to win and to unify the Filipino people amidst all the animosity brought about by the hard life and the enormous problems challenging the Filipino nation.

Fighting TERRORISM: How Far Can We Go?

Just recently I took a 21 hour flight on my way back to the U.S. We had a stop over in Hong Kong because our flight for the U.S. doesn’t leave until the following day. On the day when we were to take the Hong Kong to New York flight, I was shocked at the new rules for taking liquids with you on board an airplane.

Starting 21 March 2007, departing passengers can carry only a limited quantity of liquids in their hand baggage as an additional security measure as directed by the Civil Aviation Department. This is also a new guideline adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Peaceful End to a Hostage Drama: Agenbite of Inwit or a Political Stunt?

Just about two hours ago, a hostage drama involving 32 children and 2 teachers in a school bus, in the Philippines, ended without any bloodshed.

The alleged hostage taker, a certain Jun Ducat, who is also the founder of the day care center where those children attended, peacefully surrendered after a 10-hour stand-off that stole the spotlight, having the world media covering every bit of the crisis.

What did he want from all that media-grabbing attention? Based on initial reports, all he wanted was for a change targeting on the widespread corruption in the government and a demand for a better education for all those poor children.
