A Lesson On Double Negation

In an English class the teacher is trying to impart to the students a new lesson.

Teacher: Remember, this is only possible with two negative words. Two negative words always imply a positive thought. Take note also that it can never be done the other way around, meaning, it has never happened in the English language that two affirmative words when combined ever turn out to mean a negative thought. Do you get it, class?

(Then from the back of the classroom, somebody yelled with sarcasm.)

Student: Yeah, right!

The Ugly Face Of Poverty

The hunger pangs brought about by starvation is something that you cannot ignore. Its immediate remedy cannot be postponed as well. I know what it's like to be poor and how hard it is to appreciate life when you're starving. I've been there once in the earlier part of my life, and I would never wish any of my children to go through the pains of starvation and hunger. We were like chickens. We had to constantly scratch the ground, then feed ourselves with the little bit of food that we find, figuratively speaking. It was a day to day struggle then. It was really hard. I know what it's like to savor the taste of an eighth portion of a piece of a banana fruit when you have been hungry for hours. It's like having your first mouthful of a big sumptuous thanksgiving dinner, to say the least.

This is a global dilemma. Everyone should lend a hand to save those children whose need for food is immediate. Other things can wait. But one starved soul, with no help in sight can easily slip away either out of this life, or out of the goodness in life. He can either die or survive, but if he does live, his experience will render him rotten morally as an individual because a hungry stomach blurs your vision to what is right or what is evil. When you are starved, you are willing to bite the bullet, and it doesn't even matter. So let's not wait. Let us all help ease poverty and starvation, in whatever way we can. It is never too late. I am certain that our little effort will not be rendered futile.

• 5. Engage your readers. When you write your blog, always address your readers by pointing out 'YOU' as the blog progresses. Doing so makes your readers important. Avoid using 'I', 'me', mine or addressing the first person, as much as possible. The only exception of course is when you are tackling a story about a personal experience or anything that involves any endeavors of your own.


• 10. Be short, but be long as well. This is the one thing that I always remember when I write my blogs. This is something that I learned from one of my professors in college when it comes to writing. According to him, "A good write-up or any good article for that matter, is like a lady's mini skirt. It should be short enough to be attractive, but long enough to cover the essentials."

You can forget tips #1 to #9 but if you abide by tip #10, you will still always come up with a well-written blog that entices your readers' appetite.

Skinny Jeans: What's So Skinny About Them?

You're going to hate me for this, but I must say that nothing about the skinny jeans appeal to me. Everywhere I go jeans shopping, I hear other women asking about skinny jeans. Well, duh! Isn't it obvious that if you are twenty pounds overweight, no pair of skinny jeans can save you unless you work out those extra pounds away? Enough with all the optical illusion thing. The hype is just not going to work for everyone. Sadly, some women easily fall prey into the fashion trap. Most women are easily deceived into embracing the 'IN' thing even if it makes them look ten times worse than they already do. I'm not saying that women should ignore the recent fashion trends, but I'm urging women to have a little more sense on what they wear. It's not just about what's 'IN'. It's more on what fits your physique and what's comfortable on you. Women should realize that there's more to fashion than meets the eye. I mean if something obviously will only make you look ten times desperate would you wear it?

Psalm 91

Funny as it is, I see a lot of people being brought to this blog spot all because they searched for 'flat nose' and something like that. I wonder if it is an honest search about a real 'flat nose' or a mere keyword for a site like mine which has the words 'flat nose' in the page title.

Anyway, just to give in to the situation, I would like to share the tale of the flat nose, as narrated to me by one of my 'not so gentlemanly' teachers in the engineering department.
